To kick off our series of Parenting Talks for 2018-19 we will be having a book club discussion. Join us by reading: "How to Raise an Adult: Break Free of the Overparenting Trap and Prepare Your Kid for Success" by Julie Lythcott-Haim. Paperback and Kindle versions available on Amazon.
"Relevant to parents of toddlers as well as of twenty somethings--and of special value to parents of teens--this book is a rallying cry for those who wish to ensure that the next generation can take charge of their own lives with competence and confidence."
Book Club Discussions: Just prior to the HEPTA Open House on Thursday, November 15th from 6 to 7 PM at the HPS Learning Commons.
Cancelled Due to Lack of Registration - HEPTA Open House - Thursday, November 15th from 7 to 8PM at HPS Learning Commons. Join us to hear about Hollis Elementary PTA's plans for the year ahead, what enrichment activities and special initiatives at HPS and HUES funds raised will support, ask questions and sign up on the spot for open roles to help with in-school volunteer needs or behind the scene/outside of school planning of activities that support HEPTA's work.
You asked for evening times to learn about HEPTA and we want to provide that. Our monthly meetings (second Wednesday of the month at 10AM at HUES) are a typical non-profit business meeting where we review and vote to approve meeting minutes and financials, discuss upcoming volunteer needs, what we have to get the word out about, school leadership often attends to share a school update and HEPTA members are invited to request to be on the agenda to discuss possible new initiatives. This Open House format on Nov. 15th is designed to provide a big picture view of HEPTA's work and learn specific ways you can get involved. Whether you are new to our school community or are a veteran HEPTA volunteer we hope you will join us!
Evening Mindfulness session for parents to hear the research and benefits and how to get your kids engaged in practicing mindfulness. Date TBD (no longer 11/27).
The Hollis PTA is excited to welcome Kaitlin Stearns, an educator and yoga practitioner, to speak about Mindfulness and it's benefits for both children and adults. Kaitlin has her undergraduate and graduate degree in education and worked in public education for 10 years before pursuing a career as a mother and yoga teacher. While immersed in public education, she focused on growth mindset and social-emotional well being as areas of personal interest. She is a certified yoga teacher and creator of a Family Yoga program at a local studio which focuses on managing big emotions, remaining present, mindfulness and strengthening of the parent/child relationship. Please join us to learn more about the research on the extensive benefits of mindfulness and how you can incorporate it into your family life.
